Commissioned by Peabody and driven by community engagement, the “Believe and Achieve” basketball mural floor artwork in Thamesmead embodies a profound vision of empowerment and transformation. As a native of Thamesmead, I intimately understand the duality of experiences within the cage—a space that witnessed both adversity and transformation. This project is a testament to the belief that every individual, especially the young people of Thamesmead, can rise above challenges and achieve greatness.
In a community that has grappled with a reputation for knife crimes, this artwork emerges as a beacon of hope and positivity. Its vibrant colors and silhouettes, representing actual cage users, serve as a vivid reminder of the real potential that exists within each individual. It’s a canvas that paints a new narrative, one of belief, resilience, and ultimate achievement.
The “Believe and Achieve” mural is more than just artwork; it’s a statement of faith in the boundless potential of Thamesmead’s youth and a catalyst for positive change within our community.
