Life is a Chess (2021) is a mural installation that metaphorically explores the complexities of life, likening it to a game of chess. Through this work, I aim to challenge the viewer’s perception of life’s strategic moves and the unpredictable nature of our current global climate.
The installation features three cemented brick pillars, each meticulously painted to depict significant chess pieces, with the King and Queen prominently featured. These chess pieces are not just symbols of power but represent the critical decisions and strategies that define our lives. The choice of bricks as a medium adds a raw, industrial element to the artwork, grounding the abstract concept in a tangible, physical form.
The positioning of the bricks suggests movement, as if the pieces are in the midst of an ongoing game. This dynamic arrangement encourages viewers to consider their own life strategies, the challenges they face, and the decisions they must make in an ever-changing world. The mural not only addresses personal introspection but also comments on the broader socio-political climate, where every move can have far-reaching consequences.
Through Life is a Chess, I seek to engage the audience in a dialogue about power, choice, and the delicate balance between control and chaos in our lives. The artwork serves as a reminder that, much like in a chess game, every move we make has the potential to change the course of our journey, demanding both strategic thinking and adaptability.
