Free the Obas
I am particularly interested in the concept of appropriation within the history of Africa and its diaspora – the act of taking existing materials and re contextualising them to create something new.
In my work, I often find myself drawn to archival items and historic objects, which I use as a starting point to explore questions of identity, heritage, and cultural memory to bring the idea of restitution.
My medium ranges from acrylic paint, screen print, sculptures and other mediums to address and explore new narratives that speaks to the present moment while also acknowledging the past.
